On 4th and 5th May Antwerp welcomes Slinkachu. The well-known street artist will be leaving some installations on the street. Tourists and also citizens are invited to track down his pieces of art.
For this project Slinkachu created five new miniature art installations scattered over the different districts with the postal code 2018. The original pieces offer a new perspective on life as we know it.
On Saturday night everybody is welcome to attend the festive event which will conclude the art weekend. Stay in our hotel on 4th, 5th or 6th May and enjoy our very special Last Minute Antwerp hotel offer.
On Sunday 13 May it’s again “Open werven dag”. It’s the fifth year this event is organised, and it has already become a tradition and the biggest construction event in Belgium. It’s a unique possibility to see the hidden spots in Antwerp, for example: did you know the museum M HKA has two wonderful rooftop terraces? One is being used by the M HKAFE, where you can enjoy a coffee or lunch. The other is still under construction and will be accessible for public by the end of May. Both with a unique view to Antwerp‘s finest sights. On 13 May you can get a free preview!
Are you a fan of Hip hop? Maybe you like to see the newest dance moves? Then you should come to Antwerp on 1st May!
Hip hop originated in African-American and Latino communities of New York during the 1970s, primarily within the Bronx.
The Belgian Championship Hip hop will be held on May Bank Holiday Monday/Labour Day in Sport Centre “de Rode Loop”. Stay with us in Ramada Plaza Antwerp hotel and enjoy the nice long weekend.

The Red Star Line was a passenger liner company competing against the likes of the White Star Line (owners of the Titanic) and Cunard on the North Atlantic routes. Founded in 1871 as a venture between the International Navigation Company of Philadelphia, which also ran the American Line, and the Société Anonyme de Navigation Belgo-Américaine of Antwerp, Belgium. The Red Star Lines main ports of call were Antwerp in Belgium, Liverpool and Southampton in Britain and New York City and Philadelphia in the United States.
In 2013 Red Star Line Museum will open its doors at the company’s former warehouses in Antwerp docks. The museum will be a place of remembrance, experience, debate and research into international mobility, both past and present. The story of the Red Star Line and its passengers will be brought to life once more.
One year prior to the opening of the museum, there is a cultural festival, from 28 April until 13 May 2012 . What can be expected? Music theatre, boot trips, site visits and exhibitions in and around the museum site in the Montevideo district. You can view the programme of the Red Star Line 2012 Festival here (in Dutch).
